Cook & Connect Supporting Propel at WRHN

Cook & Connect Supporting Propel at WRHN

Cook & Connect is a cooking program designed to provide a safe, welcoming space for youth mental health patients to learn, connect, and grow. Led by Chef Rob and Chef Mady, this program is about more than just food—it’s about the conversations, the laughter, and the sense of belonging that comes from sharing a meal. Through hands-on cooking experiences, teens develop essential life skills, build confidence, and find joy in the process. More than just a class, Cook & Connect is a place of empowerment, where food fosters healing, friendship, and meaningful connections.

These classes are part of Waterloo Regional Health Network’s Propel, an innovative program that delivers ways to engage young people through healthy activities rather than through traditional therapy.

Propel provides opportunities for youth registered with Waterloo Regional Health Network’s Child & Adolescent Mental Health Program to achieve personal success with therapeutic goals by engaging them with community based activities where they learn new skills that support their recovery, resilience and the development of healthy peer relationships.

By providing the funds to the patient’s families to cover the costs of registration, it removes the financial burden and helps by providing these young people with an escape and the tools to build and maintain their mental wellbeing.
