Orange Shirt Day, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, calls us to honour survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home. Reconciliation is not a single day—it is a journey of learning, reflection, and action year-round.

Featured art is the work of Brenna Nanie. Brenna is an Anishinaabe, Mohawk, Romanian, and Irish multimedia artist based in Toronto. Her work explores Indigenous storytelling, environmentalism, and the connection between people and nature. A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University, Brenna also works as a puppeteer, bringing stories to life through multiple artistic mediums.

Inspired by the history of Waterloo Regional Health Network, this artwork reflects the coming together of three hospitals into one unified network. Three marsh wrens symbolize connection, resilience, and community, while the quiet interaction between the child and the birds represents mutual care, trust, and belonging. Rooted in Indigenous values of interconnectedness, the piece celebrates WRHN's partnership with the Careship Fund and its commitment to creating welcoming, supportive spaces for Indigenous communities.

Wearing the shirt is one way to carry forward the reminder that reconciliation is a shared, daily commitment. We encourage everyone to wear their shirts any day to visibly demonstrate this commitment to truth and reconciliation beyond September 30.

All sizes are unisex.
